Rev. Eric Atcheson was called as pastor by the people of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on August 14, 2011, and he formally began his ministry here on September 19, 2011.

Eric’s Biblically-grounded theology shines through in his award-winning preaching and public speaking.  He loves to reflect upon Scripture, unpacking its great array of stories with inclusive and insightful commentary that aims to guide, inspire, and even challenge, but to never threaten.  Eric has ministered in a wide variety of capacities, from parish ministry to hospital chaplaincy, from youth ministry to overseas mission work.

Eric comes to Longview from First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Concord, California, where he served for two years as student associate minister.  A born-and-raised Kansan, Eric has found a new home on the West Coast since first relocating from the Kansas City area in 2004.  He loves Nutella, French fries with mustard, maple syrup, and anything that it is socially acceptable to pour maple syrup on.  In his spare time, he enjoys reading, exercising, playing video games, and following his hometown soccer teams, Sporting Kansas City and FC Kansas City.

Eric is currently studying for his Doctor of Ministry degree at Seattle University while still ministering full-time here at FCC Longview.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Religion and Psychology from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California.  He has also earned a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Jewish Studies from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, and he was ordained by the Greater Kansas City Region of the Disciples of Christ on June 11, 2011.

Eric is married to Dr. Carrie Hamby Atcheson, an attending anesthesiologist for the Oreon Anesthesiology Group in Portland, Oregon, and they are the proud parents of two rescue four-legged furchildren, a Jack Russell terrier/Chihuahua named Henry and a poodle/bichon frise named Frida.

Eric has a blog called The Theophilus Project, which contains all of his sermon manuscripts and columns in addition to whatever else he happens to be thinking about at the time.  You can reach him via email via the contact tab at the top of the page, or you can reach him via phone at the church office at 360.425.4220.  You can also follow him on Twitter at @RevEricAtcheson.
